Tours in Brazil
Welcome to Brazil!!!

Brazil (officially known as the Federative Republic of Brazil) is a federative republic formed by the union of 26 federate states and a Federal District. The country has 189,612,814 inhabitants, an area of 8.514.876, 599 km² (5,289,090 mi), which is equivalent to 47% of the South American territory. In comparison to other countries, Brazil is the 5th most populous area and the 5th largest country by geographical area.

Brazil is the world’s ninth largest economy in addition to being Latin America’s largest economy. Currently, Brazil’s economy strongly influences regional and world markets. The country has between 15 and 20 % of the world’s biodiversity. An example of this wealth is the Amazon Rain Forest, which encompasses 3,6 million square meters (2,237 million miles).

Brazil is bordered to the north by Venezuela, Suriname, Guyana and the overseas department of French Guyana; to the northwest by Colombia; to the west by Bolivia and Peru; to the southwest by Argentina and Paraguay and to the south by Uruguay. The only South American countries that do not border Brazil are Chile and Ecuador. The country Atlantic coastline borders the Northern, Northeast, Southeast and Southern regions.

Colonized by the Portuguese, Brazil is the only Portuguese speaking country on the American Continent. The Brazilian population is predominantly Roman Catholic and it is the country with the highest number of Roman Catholics in the world. However, there are a significant number of Evangelic followers in addition to a substantial increase in the number of non-religious groups seen over the last few years.

Brazil’s population consists of indigenous people descendants, Portuguese colonizers, African slaves and different groups of immigrants that settled in Brazil mostly between 1820 and 1970. Most of the immigrants are of Italian and Portuguese origin; however, immigrants from other countries such as Germany, Spain, Japan and Syria are also present. Due to this, the ethnic makeup of the Brazilians is not uniform throughout the country.

São Paulo is a great cultural and entertainment center in addition to being the richest city of South America. The city faces common problems found in other metropolis such as excess traffic on account of too many cars in circulation (average of one car for every two inhabitants). Currently, there are 6 million cars circulating in the city. The city also has the largest fleet of helicopters in the world. Immigrants from different parts of the world have given the city a variety of restaurants and snack bars.

Geographically speaking, the regions closer to downtown São Paulo are generally inhabited by wealthier people and are also more developed while more remote regions tend to be inhabited by poorer people and usually lack urban and housing infra-structure.

Brazilian culture was developed in Brazil’s first city, Salvador, and has sharply influenced other regions in the country, especially with regard to how foreign countries see Brazil. Since the 17th Century, two distinct religions can be found in the state of Bahia: Roman Catholic (of European origin) and candomblé (of African origin).

The state’s inhabitants used to call the city of Salvador: Bahia. Manaus

Manaus is the capital of the state of Amazonas. It is located on the River Negro near its confluence with the River Solimões in the heart of the Amazon Forest in the northern region of the country. Manaus is the most densely populated city of the Amazon region and is known worldwide for its industry and ecotourism.

Manaus became a famous city at the beginning of the 20th century due to the rubber boom. During this period it was called Coração da Amazônia (Heart of the Amazon) and Cidade da Floresta (Forest City).

The Amazon Forest is the largest tropical forest in the world, even though it’s smaller than the Siberian Taiga Forest. The Amazon hiléia (Amazon Forest as defined by Alexander von Humboldt) looks, when seen from above, like a continuous layer of 50 meter (I64 feet) tree tops.

The population of Manaus results from the interracial marriage of three basic ethnic groups that make up the Brazilian population: Indians, European and Blacks. The result of this is the mestiços (mixed races) of the regions (cablocos, mulatos and cafuzos). Later on, when immigrants arrived, more specifically Japanese, Arabs and Jews, a unique melting pot was formed which characterizes the population of the city, its values and way of life. Manaus cuisine is characterized by the use of a great variety of fish which comes from the Amazon River basin.
